November 9-13

Hello everyone! We hope you had a wonderful weekend and that you’re enjoying this lovely cool fall weather! We also hope it stays around J

In reading we have been talking about THEME. We say that the THEME is one or two words that describe the BIG IDEA of the book. As you read with your student at home and finish books encourage them to talk with you about what they think the THEME of the book is! Some examples are: friendship, family, perseverance, bravery, kindness, believing in yourself, etc. See what your student can come up with and talk with them about WHY they think that is the THEME!

Here’s what we are learning this week..

Reading: Readers understand that theme is one or two words that describe the big idea of the book. They can discuss the theme of what they are reading!

Writing: We will continue our study of Reviews! We are talking about the parts of a review: title, lead, claim, support points, explanations, conclusion. Ask your child what these are!

Math: We are continuing to learn subtraction with regrouping and moving on to regrouping in the tens place!

Social Studies: We are learning about me in relation to my world! We will be talking about the different types of maps and how we relate to the world we live in.

Science: We will continue to talk in detail about different forms of energy!
